GREEN INITIATIVES
Twin
Industries and the electronics industry have been working to provide lead-free
products in response to concerns about the environmental impact of the use of
lead (Pb) in solder finishes. This effort is in
response to increasing customer demand and directives from governments around
the globe to decrease the amounts of consumer electronics waste. Specifically, two
legal requirements are being enacted:
1.
RoHS (Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances)
comes from the European Union. It seeks to ban the use of certain materials in
certain applications by July 1, 2006. A complete list of these materials is

2.
WEEE (Waste from
Electrical and Electronic Equipment) also comes from the European Union. It
seeks to ban the use of certain materials concerning recyclability
and material content declarations by Dec 31, 2006. A complete list of these
materials is available at http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/netregs/legislation/380525/473094/.
China and other countries are planning to use the similar
legislation for products used in their countries.
SOLUTIONS
Twin Industries has chosen to work
proactively with customers and suppliers in launching an aggressive lead-free
initiative: the Lead-Free Implementation, which is highlighted by our
commitment to offer lead-free finish options on all possible packages.
We are proud to announce that we have
exceeded our goals.
At this time, nearly all Twin Industries
Products are available lead-free.
PART NUMBERING:
Twin Industries has implemented the
following part numbering scheme to give our Customers a simple and effective
way to differentiate between our standard and our Lead-Free products. The dash LF (‘-LF’) suffix was been added as
an option to denote Lead-Free compliance.

Lead-Free Compliant Part Number:
8000-45-LF
